2005 Bloomington Geometry Workshop

The geometry group at Indiana University will again host an April workshop with the help of the National Science Foundation and the Department of Mathematics. The aim of the gathering is to foster interaction among mathematicians having diverse geometric interests.

Speakers:

The workshop will begin on Friday, April 8, at 4:00 pm with a colloquium lecture:

• Gang Tian (Princeton) - K-stability for algebraic manifolds

The workshop continues on Saturday and Sunday with lectures by:

• Ian Agol (Chicago) - Volumes of hyperbolic Haken 3-manifolds
• François Ledrappier (South Bend) - Some Martin points for rank one manifolds
• Young-Heon Kim (Evanston) - Holomorphic extensions of determinants of Laplacians
• John Lott (Ann Arbor) - Ricci curvature for metric-measure spaces
• Gang Tian (Princeton) - Einstein metrics in dimension four
• Erik Van Erp (Penn State) - Noncommutative geometry and index theory on contact manifolds
• Fangyang Zheng (Columbus) - Examples of positively curved complete Kähler manifolds

There are many restaurants near the University, with a wide variety of cuisines including: Afghan, Burmese, Eritrean, Indian, Moroccan, Thai, and Tibetan. Most have fare amenable to vegetarian diets, and one can find a decent cup of coffee in town.

The internationally recognized Indiana University School of Music presents Mozart's opera The Magic Flute on both Friday and Saturday nights (4/8, 4/9).

The mathematics department is housed in Rawles Hall, the building just west of the intersection of 3rd Street and Woodlawn Avenue on the north side of 3rd Street.
