Honors

Requirements for honors in Math

The honors program for Mathematics majors normally begins with Math-S 211 or Math-S 212. However, students with a strong calculus background may wish to join honors courses at the 300-level, such as Math-S 311 or Math-S 303. For permission to add a Math-S honors course, please submit a request to add a 200-level of higher math course form:

If you wish to graduate with honors in Mathematics, you are expected to complete the courses S303, S311, S312, S403, S413-S414, and at least two 6-credit hour S or M sequences at the 400 level or above. (S403-S404 may be used to fulfill this requirement.) You must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.3 in all your courses and at least a grade point average of 3.5 in your Mathematics courses. Once you successfully complete most of the courses above, you may petition the department to qualify for departmental honors.
