Full Story
María Wonenburger was a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at Indiana University, Bloomington from 1967 to 1983 when she returned to Spain for family reasons. She worked in classical group theory and Clifford algebras. She has been recognized as a key inspiration behind the theory of Kac-Moody algebras through the thesis of her first doctoral student, Robert Moody.

There will be a presentation of a new biography of her life and mathematics, written by María José Souto and Ana Tarrío, on February 22 at the national museum of science and technology (MUNCYT) in the city of A Coruña, Spain. This city lies in the Galician region where María Wonenburger was born and raised.
