Nguyen received his PhD in 2009 from IU, working with Distinguished Professor Kevin Zumbrun. The SIAM Activity Group on Nonlinear Waves and Coherent Structures presents this award every two years to one mid-career established researcher for recent outstanding work on a topic in nonlinear waves, as evidenced by a body of work with at least one significant publication in English in a peer-reviewed journal within the four calendar years preceding the award year.
The citation recognizes “extensive and deep contributions to the mathematical theory of the dynamics of gas and fluids.” The selection committee members were Beatrice Pelloni (Chair), Heriot-Watt University; Yoshifumi Kimura, Nagoya University; Stefano Trillo, University of Ferrara; Anna Vainchtein, University of Pittsburgh; and Henry Warchall, National Science Foundation. The prize will be awarded at NWCS22, to take place in Bremen, Germany on August 30 – September 2, 2022 .
Nguyen’s previous accolades include an AMS Centennial Fellowship in 2018 and a Simons Fellowship in 2019.
