Prof. Dr. James F. Davis to work on the classification of high dimensional manifolds.
Göttingen University’s Mathematical Institute has the pleasure of hosting Prof. Dr. James F. Davis of the Indiana University in Bloomington. Thanks to a grant of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Prof. Davis will be working as a visiting scholar together with Prof. Dr. Thomas Schick. In their research, both are interested in the classification of high dimensional manifolds – geometric objects used to describe complex physical processes. Prof. Davis’ expertise in algebra and geometry complements Prof. Schick’s analytical knowledge. They will also apply techniques referring back to David Hilbert’s list of 23 mathematical problems first formulated in 1900.
