The Goldwater Scholars progam was established in 1986, and is a highly competitive national scholarship competition seeking to support college sophomores and juniors showing exceptional promise of becoming the next generation of research leaders in natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. This year, two of our majors won this scholarship:
Liz Dietrich, who would like to get a Ph.D. in applied mathematics and do research in mathematical biology, and Kelli Michaels, who would like to get a Ph.D. in physics and conduct experimental research in high energy particle physics or neutrino physics.
