Elon Lindenstrauss "Rigidity of higher rank diagonalizable actions in zero and positive characteristic"

Actions of higher rank diagonalizable actions on quotients of linear groups over local fields such as R, Q_p or F_q((t)) (the field of Laurent series over the finite field with q=p^n elements) have deep and not fully understood rigidity properties.

I will present some recent results in this direction, in particular regarding classification of joinings in the zero characteristic case and some first results in the positive characteristic case.

Joint work with Manfred Einsiedler (ETH) and in part with Amir Mohammadi (UCSD).
